I am currently working on my Master's Thesis, but I procrastinate by reading all the books I can! In the meantime, I have a good job with fun people.

Among the Thugs

Among the Thugs
By Bill Buford

I'm a member of a soccer supporters club in the US. And sometimes those in our group talk about being more like (insert country here)- be it in South America, Europe, whereever. After reading this, I'm even more sure of my view- NO WAY! I desperately hope the MLS supporters clubs are never like this. Disturbing, scary, eye-opening book that humanizes the people perpetuating this violence, which is good and interesting.

Favorite line, from page 44: "Man is always the same. The situation confronting him changes."

The Shack

The Shack
By Willaim P. Young

I was expecting this to be a lot better, it had been highly recommended and anticipated by me. I was actually surprised the Jesus was a prominent character, since most writings like this feature a hodge-podge of religious ideas. Glad to discover the story wasn't real, though.

Northern Light

Northern Light
By Nora Roberts

Good. Nothing spectacular, but good characters and a solid story. I liked the relationship between Meg and her mother, I don't remember too many of those in Nora Robert's stories and it was refreshing. I like being able to count on a few authors to give me a good, interesting, and funny story. Oh! And love the name of the town- Lunacy, Alaska!

The Jesus Chronicles: John's Story

The Jesus Chronicles: John's Story, The Last Eyewitness
By Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
0399153896 215p

Eh, wasn't too impressed. Short, since 100 pages is from the Bible (which makes the whole book 310p). I don't know how much was historically accurate. And the writing was juvenile, which I should have expected after the writing of the Left Behind series. Good idea, poor execution.

The Lilac Bus and other stories

The Lilac Bus and other stories
By Maeve Binchy

I don't like that we never hear the end of any story. We get the beginning. The middle. But no end. It's implied, but who knows is something else might happen. No surprises? Odd. Good characters, obviously, since I wanted to know what happened to them!

Heartburn

Not as good as I thought it would be. Funny, yes, but not nearly as fleshed out enough. I couldn't seem to care too much about the characters and the problems they were facing.
