I am currently working on my Master's Thesis, but I procrastinate by reading all the books I can! In the meantime, I have a good job with fun people.

At Home in Mitford

Cute. A bit weird, but that’s okay. Cute town, cute people, cute situations. But still very odd. I think I’ll have to read another of her books, just to see what that one is like.

Well-written. Entertaining and yet informative. I like the style of writing he has, in-your-face with no apologies. I love reading about other people’s lives and especially how they came to God, so this was a great read for me! And the author seems like a genuinely nice guy. Flawed, of course, and makes no excuses for his flaws. Both of which give him high marks with me. Perfection is unattainable in this world and slightly boring anyway (again, in this world!). I would rather read how someone survived the fire and came out the other side a better person.

The Medici Ring

The Medici Ring

Predictable to a point. Yet still surprising at times! I liked the characters, and I loved the big surprise about the poem at the end that I did not see coming at all!! Well written, nice comfortable read.

The Source

The Source
By James A. Micheneu

Started off very well, I really enjoyed the first part. Didn’t agree with some of it, but I did enjoy it. The last of the book though, I’m not sure where exactly it started to go downhill but it did! If I had read this book a few years ago, I may have decided to be an archeologist… at least for a few weeks! First 2/3 of the book or so: 9/10, the ending 1/3: 5/10. So the average, I suppose, would be: 7/10

The True Darcy Spirit

The True Darcy Spirit
By Elizabeth Aston

Okay, still good but not as good as the first two. This plot seemed much more outlandish than anything in the first two books. But there are still hints of the character traits that I love in Jane Austen’s novels, so: 7/10

The Exploits and Adventures of Miss Althea Darcy

The Exploits and Adventures of Miss Althea Darcy
By Elizabeth Aston

Not as good as the first sequel to Price and Prejudice, but still wonderful. The plotlines are starting to get a bit outrageous, but then I suppose Pride and Prejudice had some contrived situations as well. As does life, you never know what strange places you’ll end up in. I still love the characters and am glad we get to learn more about Althea, since the first sequel left so much unfinished business with her.

Mr. Darcy’s Daughters

Mr. Darcy’s Daughters

It’s a shame that we never see Darcy and Elizabeth, but then it’s good as well. No matter how good a sequel is, it might get something wrong and then the whole thing collapses. The wrong word in a beloved characters mouth and the whole thing falls apart. I love Pride and Prejudice (as mentioned in other reviews, of course). This is another great sequel to that book.

Bogart

Bogart

Wow. I love Cary Grant, I love Katharine Hepburn enough to tolerate Spencer Tracy, and now I am in love with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Now, this happened before I read this book. But this book was there with perfect timing for me. I loved how long this book was, it meant it could cover many things in minute details. I love that it shows the good and the bad of everyone involved. This is not a fan book, this is not a tell-all tabloid trash book, this is almost a scholarly book, rich in details. For anyone who wants to know what Hollywood was like in the (dare I say it?) Good Old Days, this book is great. Details and more details. I love hearing about, say, the songs that were sung on the plane on the way to DC to appear at a hearing. Wonderful details.
