He heard her come in. Floating on his back with his eyes closed, he heard the small noises that indicated she was there.

She slipped into the pool and swam slowly, quietly to him. He braced himself, knowing what was coming. He was the perfect target, she wouldn't be able to resist showing him under the water. Any second now...

A hand snaked under his neck as her lips covered his. Her touch kept his head above water when the shock nearly sent him to the bottom of the pool.

He found her waist and pulled her close to him. Her body melted against his almost instantly. His hands slid up and down her back before stilling as he realized he was touching bare skin.

He pulled away and opened his eyes to look at her. "Nice bikini."

She smiled. "Thanks."

"Why didn't you wear it yesterday?" He began to drop kisses along her neck, making it a little difficult for her to think.

"I... because I bought it today."

"What?"

"At lunchtime, I went out and bought it."

He held her at arms length and slowly perused her body.

She began to blush. "What?"

"You bought this just for me, I want to see it." He smiled, obviously liking what he saw. "You didn't own a bikini? I really thought you would-"

"I do own a bikini." She fiddled with his hair, not looking him in the face as she watched the water drip down his shoulders to his chest. "It reminds me of an ex-boyfriend."

"So you bought one to remind you of me. How sweet." He kissed her again and this time she held him in place. She wrapped her body around his. He resumed touching her body.

His hands dipped lower each time he slid them down. He slid his fingers under the waistband of her bikini and she shivered.

She shook her head, but didn't stop touching his body. Their lips remained plastered together. He wasn't sure what she wanted, a familiar feeling for him. He slid his hands up her body again, but quickly returned to her waist. He gently pushed down the side of the bottom of her bikini and she pushed him away.

"No."

He held up his hands. Okay, I'm sorry. I just thought maybe tonight we'd-"

"Never, Danny." She cut him off.

"What?"

"I thought you knew... I can't sleep with you."

He tried for a light tone. "Sleeping isn't exactly-"

"Sex, Danny." She sighed. "I can't have sex with you or my job is gone."

"So you're just stringing me along, having some fun at my expense?"

She narrowed her eyes at him and crossed her arms over her chest. "Yeah, I could tell you weren't having any fun at all."

"CJ," he warned her. "Answer me. Just because we don't sleep together doesn't mean there's nothing going on between us. We could both lose our jobs just over what's happened between us tonight."

She looked away. "I have to go."

He grabbed her hand and held it gently to keep her from swimming to the side of the pool. "CJ?"

"I hadn't..." She took a deep breath and decided he deserved the truth. "I think I deluded myself."

"How so?"

"I convinced myself that... if I didn't sleep with you, I'd still be ethically okay." She sighed unhappily. "But you're right, I've already stepped way over the line. I need to turn and run in the other direction as fast as I can."

"That wasn't what I was saying." Danny protested. He paused to consider, then realized there was no way to spin this. "But you're right. I won't forget, thought, won't be able to forget..." he pulled her closer and gave her a gentle kiss.

She smiled sadly when he pulled away from her. "I'll let you know if I'm ever fed up with my job enough to risk throwing it away."

"Just mention a bikini during a briefing." He met her sad smile with one of his own. "I'll get the hint."

She shook her head in amusement before pulling away and swimming to a ladder. It took all her effort to walk away on her shaky legs.
